Yesterday at the special event, Samsung announced its much-awaited flagship device the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ with pre-orders starting today. However, Samsung puts in an extra offer to sweeten the deal.
Customers who pre-order either of the two handsets now, will get a Samsung Gear VR Headset with the newly introduced controller and AKG branded earphones for free.
Samsung has also refined its Gear 360 camera to shoot 360-degree videos in 4K.
Gear VR with Controller
The Gear VR headset with its mobile attachment remains the same as before. With the larger screen sizes from the Galaxy S8 and S8+, you are guaranteed a better viewing experience.
The great thing is that the Gear VR gets a new motion controller which is more or less similar to the Google’s Daydream controller, or the ones that come with the Rift and Vive headsets in terms of functionality.
The controller buttons make it easy to interact with the content you are watching. The Gear VR along with the controller goes on sale the 21st of April with a bundled package price of $129. If you already have a Gear VR you can buy the controller alone for $40.
Samsung introduced its new hand-held Gear 360 camera that captures spherical photos and videos that can be viewed later on your VR headsets.
Among the notable improvements is the ability to record 4K videos. With the New Gear 360 camera, you can live stream video in 2k to your YouTube channel. This new Gear 360 comes with a bigger battery and works even while charging.
Unlike the previous Gear 360 that supported only a handful of Samsung smartphones, the new Gear 360 comes with iPhone compatibility running iOS 10.1 and above.
The connectivity options for Gear 360 include Wi-Fi direct, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB 2.0 Type-C. It will be available in Q2 for a price of $350.
